FIRST ALBUM BOUGHT? Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual. I grew up with my father collecting vinyl—Marianne Faithfull, Elvis Costello, the Rolling Stones. My first record was pop, the opposite of what I'd been reared on. It was a little bit of rebellion, which I think happens to kids whose parents have good taste.
MOST REREAD BOOK? Children of Light, by Robert Stone. It's the story of a film crew trying to make a movie of another one of my favorite books, Kate Chopin's The Awakening. It's all about an actress aging and deteriorating in Los Angeles.
PERSONAL MANTRA? I was raised Catholic, so I always try to adhere to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I feel like if everybody did, life would be much more pleasant. It takes strength to be gentle and kind.
BIGGEST REGRET? Turning down projects I should have done.
ASTROLOGICAL SIGN? I'm a triple Scorpio—I don't get along well with other Scorpio women but pretty well with Scorpio men.
FAVORITE MOVIE? Badlands, by Terrence Malick. I like the story of love on the run and rebellion.
GUILTY PLEASURES? Vintage clothing, tequila, tanning... Of course, the sun ages you, but without a tan I look greenish yellow.
UNDERRATED NOTION? Manners. One of my first books was Muppet Manners. They were always important in our household.
BEAUTY OR BRAINS? I take humor over both.
FAVORITE OBJECT? A denim jacket with ELVIS embroidered on the back that the actress Linda Manz wore in Out of the Blue. Linda and I worked together once; I asked if I could buy the jacket, and she said yes. Whenever I show it to people who love that film, they're really jealous.
FANTASY ARTIST TO PAINT YOUR PORTRAIT? John Currin.
SONG IN THE SHOWER? Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" and other songs from Rock of Ages. I worked with the guy who wrote the musical, and I've been really into the '80s power ballads. I try to sing karaoke, but I can never pull it off. In the shower, it works.
FAVORITE TIME OF DAY? Sunset. I'm more of an owl than a lark, so when night comes I'm more comfortable.
DREAM LUNCH DATE? My mother's mother. She died before I was born. I've always wanted to meet her; she sounds like an eccentric lady. She had a black cat called Lucifer and birds and wore a lot of Bakelite beads. I feel like I take after her.
DOGS OR CATS? Cats. I think they're really freaky and weird and powerful and wild.
SIGNATURE DISH? I make a really good watermelon, feta, and jalapeño salad. Whenever Humberto [Leon] from Opening Ceremony has a barbecue, that's what I bring.
FAVORITE ROOM? I'm moving, but I would have to say my powder room. It's nautical-themed—I have all these photos of me and my family at the beach or sailing. It's very sweet, kind of Waspy, and a little TGI Fridays. It makes me feel like a kid.
ALTERNATE PROFESSION? Something more admirable, like the Peace Corps or Greenpeace. I am a quiet environmentalist: I compost in the city, and I feel very strongly about a lot of that.
FAVORITE DESIGNER? Nicolas Ghesquière—I can't wait to see what he does next.
RIHANNA OR BEYONCE? I'm split. I've met Beyoncé, and she was one of the nicest people I've met. I go to a lot of Knicks games. She and Jay-Z were the only people out of all the celebrities to introduce themselves to me. I've never met Rihanna, but I like her jams a little more. They're fun.
FAVORITE BAR/CLUB? My favorite club is probably Sway. They have a Morrissey night that I've been going to for, like, 12 years. My favorite bar is Max Fish because I always know somebody there—I've been going since I was 18 years old.
FAVORITE BAND? The Velvet Underground. I love Nico's singing, and they're probably one of the most important contributors to music.
FAVORITE TV SHOW? Game of Thrones. That Jon Snow boy is so beautiful, I can't even take it. All the perfect breasts give me a little anxiety, but I'm really into it. That and Breaking Bad.
FAVORITE APP? I have a BlackBerry, so I don't have any. But I like Facebook because there's more discourse. People post articles and things, not just photos.
FAVORITE COCKTAIL? Tequila on the rocks. Keep it simple.
